Kimosetter 340i Computer to Film System
Once only available to offset, screen and pad printers in Europe and Asia, the Kimosetter 340i Filmsetter is now available in the U.S. (2009).
The Kimosetter 340i Filmsetter is a compact desktop CTF ( computer-to-film) system capable of imaging positive polyester films with a maximum printing area of 12.72" x 18.74". Using the same thermal imaging technology as the Kimosetter 410 Platemaker, the image is "etched" onto proprietary Kimolec TH film using a completely dry, non-chemical process. Compared with laser films, the imaged films are toner free and with sharper edge definition resulting in excellent text, high density solids and clean halftones.
Offset printers will benefit by eliminating darkrooms, cameras and chemistry and/or outsourcing. While negative film and negative metal plates have been used primarily in the U.S., positives have been used in Europe for many years. Positives use the non image area to expose the plate which allows the Kimosetter 340i to use less thermal ink, which translates into $$ savings for you. If you still want to produce negative film, the Kimosetter 340i will do this as well, but the more coverage needed, the more ribbons will be used. That's why we endorse positive film making.
